Okay. I may not still be totally over by the great Super Bass… but guess what?
I have a new last song syndrome (LSS)!
I first heard this song via my sisters and their weird obsession with youtube artists that do covers of songs. So, yeah. I did not hear the original version first.
The one that stick my mind was the cover Megan Nicole did (where she changed some lyrics to Spanish). My sister harassed the replay button on this one.
I have to be honest, by then, I already liked the song. I was impressed by how meaningful it was — add to that how sweet Megan Nicole’s rendition was.
However, my LSS started (and still goes on for what seems like forever) when I heard the original version.
I don’t know.
There is something about Lil Wayne’s voice (and character?) that contradicts the song entirely…
but still and makes every bit of sense and gives it the right sentiment.
Or simply put, it brings more “kilig” factor to the song.
Again, I don’t know.
What the hell…
Just cut the music up! Little louder… ;P
How to Love by Lil Wayne Cut the music up a little louder You had a lot of crooks try to steal your heart Never really had luck, couldn't ever figure out How to love How to love You had a lot of moments that didn't last forever Now you're in this corner tryna put it together How to love How to love For a second you were here Now you over there It's hard not to stare, the way you moving your body Like you never had a love Never had a love When you was just a young and your looks were so precious But now your grown up So fly it's like a blessing but you can't have a man look at you for five seconds Without you being insecure You never credit yourself, so when you got older It's seems like you came back ten times over Now you're sitting here in this damn corner Looking through all your thoughts and looking over your shoulder See you had a lot of crooks try to steal your heart Never really had luck, couldn't ever figure out How to love How to love See you had a lot of moments that didn't last forever Now you're in this corner tryna put it together How to love How to love For a second you were here Why you over there? It's hard not to stare the way you moving your body Like you never had a love Had a love You had a lot of dreams that transformed to visions The fact that you saw the world affected all your decisions But it wasn't your fault Wasn't in your intentions To be the one here talking to me Be the one listenin' But I admire your popping bottles and dippin' Just as much as you admire bartending and stripping Baby, so don't be mad Nobody else tripping You see a lot of crooks and the crooks still crook See You had a lot of crooks try to steal your heart Never really had luck, couldn't ever figure out How to love How to love See you had a lot of moments that didn't last forever Now you in this corner tryna put it together How to love How to love Oh, See I just want you to know That you deserve the best You're beautiful You're beautiful Yeah And I want you to know, you're far from the usual Far from the usual You see you had a lot of crooks try to steal your heart Never really had luck, couldn't ever figure out How to love How to love See you had a lot of moments that didn't last forever Now you in this corner tryna put it together How to love How to love See you had a lot of crooks try to steal your heart Never really had luck, couldn't ever figure out How to love How to love See you had a lot of moments that didn't last forever Now you in this corner tryna put it together How to love How to love, mmmm.
So just like Megan Nicole, I want to know…
…who taught you How to Love?
There is not a day at our home (in Zamboanga) that you will not hear singing.
And ever since I went home to “rest”, there is not a day that my sister would not sing Super Bass by Nicki Minaj.
It is understandable because the song is very catchy. Especially the part with:
“Boom, badoom, boom, boom, badoom, boom, he got that super bass
boom, badoom, boom, boom, badoom, boom, he got that super bass”
But my sister, she sings it from beginning to end.
<And another thing you need to know about me is that I easily “absorb” what other people are singing.
Whatever that song is. Even if I don’t know what that song is. If one will start singing it, I have this sudden urge to either continue singing it or start with my own version.>
Now I got this song STUCK in my HEAD!
Talk about the ultimate Last Song Syndrome (LSS). Not that I’m complaining.
It’s a wonderful feeling hearing and singing this song.
(Helps with my “rest”. haha)
I just want to share this feeling with others by sharing the original version and two AMAZING covers.

And my favorite version, so far…

To complete the experience, below are the lyrics.

Since I’m such a tamad blogger, I’m letting Tatia do all the writing. I’ll just do the posting. haha
(also the best time to try out WordPress. nice!)
Also, I have this sickness where when I’m too happy, I can’t write (notice how most my posts are bring-me-ups or very deep pretentious sh**? haha). I’m trying to change though. One step at a time. ;p
But for the mean time, enjoy this post by Tashing. 🙂
My siesta was cut short when I received a text message from an unknown number, which said:
“Jackie try mo magaudition sa sound of music manila. Check mo facebook page nila! go! go!”
This unknown texter turned out to be Rica.
Although I am flattered by the sentiment, I replied with:
“Wah. Manonood na lang ako. Isa un sa vocally challenging musicals ano! hahaha. Ishcary!”
As usual, my low self esteem and katamaran (laziness) wins again. haha
But I did think of all the what-ifs and started researching for one Broadway song I would sing IF i did or would audition.
The first thing that came to mind was “I can hear the bells” from Hairspray but then I remembered that the character (Tracy) who sang this was on the bigger side. And since I’m super payatot, I just thought it would be a weird audition piece for me. I would not do Tracy justice. haha
The next is Someday from The Wedding Singer the Musical. And I thought it was just perfect. After doing a couple of runs, I suddenly remembered a song from the same musical that I grew to like (now, I absolutely loooove it!).
It’s called Right in front of your eyes. I’ve already heard it even before I’ve seen the musical, but I came to appreciate it more when I saw Nikki Valdez’s performance during 9Works Theatrical’s The Wedding Singer last November.
Nikki was actually pretty good. She had a very powerful voice. Plus her comedic charm really matched her character’s personality. She really did a good job. Actually, some of my friends did not realize it was Nikki. I just pointed it out to them (plus the playbill/program as proof). This was certainly her ultimate bestfriend-of-the-bida role.
Now, I really would like to share her performance so you could see for yourself but I’ve got something even better. It’s the performance of the original broadway cast. Nikki’s role, Holly, was originally played by Amy Spanger. Spanger was also the original Sherrie from Rock of Ages (Just a small town girl living in a lonely world — she was the “small town girl”.)
“You’re caught by surprise.
Could you wake up one day and realize
the one that you want
is right in front of your eyes?”
Can’t get enough of both. 🙂
I came home from another usual 12-hour workday.
And almost an hour after midnight, I am still awake.
I am so dead tired. I have nothing to do. But why can’t I still sleep?
One word came to mind: Insomnia.
Since tomorrow is going to be another early day for me, I decided that it needs to stop (or needs to be cured? i dunno).
It’s unhealthy and it just leaves me more tired the next day.
So I typed in the word “insomnia” to good-old google.
But before I got to the real root of my search, I got distracted with other results for “Insomnia”.
It turns out (based on a shallow search), there is one movie and two songs called Insomnia.
One song is from a band (i assume) called Faithless. You have to hear it to understand why it’s called as such.
Who could sleep to that beat?? Not really a lullaby. haha
As for the other song… well…
let me give you a hint: Craig David! ;p
“Insomnia.. aaah! Feels like Insomnia… aaah!”
The movie, I haven’t seen yet.
I’ve heard of it but I don’t know why I never got to see it (especially with two of my favorite actors as part of the cast– Al Pacino and Robin Williams).
Plus, it has a really cool site.
Check it out: http://dontcloseyoureyes.warnerbros.com/flash/index.html
Note to self: Download this movie.
OK. I am digressing… Enough of my sleepless none sense… back to the “real” insomnia issue.
And I found out that it’s not a simple thing.
Based from National Center for Biotechnology Information (U.S. National Library of Medicine), there are four types of Insomnia:
Psychophysiological insomnia; Learned insomnia; Chronic insomnia; Primary insomnia.
I don’t know which one I have but the basic treatments (or tips) for all cases are pretty much the same (please don’t mind the supposed-to-be mental notes I scribbled below!):
The following tips can help improve sleep. This is called sleep hygiene.
- Avoid caffeine, alcohol, or nicotine before bed. —> OK. Noted!
- Don’t take daytime naps. —> as if I can with my work load!
- Eat at regular times each day (avoid large meals near bedtime). —> Hard to do but okay.
- Exercise at least 2 hours before going to bed. —> seriously?? where can I possibly get the energy!?
- Go to bed at the same time every night. —> seems possible…
- Keep comfortable sleeping conditions. —> i can arrange this…
- Remove the anxiety that comes with trying to sleep by reassuring yourself that you will sleep or by distracting yourself. —-> i will try…
- Use the bed only for sleep and sex. —> hahaha. OK. Noted! 😛
Do something relaxing just before bedtime (such as reading or taking a bath) so that you don’t dwell on worrisome issues. Watching TV or using a computer may be stimulating to some people and interfere with their ability to fall asleep. —> as if I could keep myself away from the nearest PC! haha
If you can’t fall asleep within 30 minutes, get up and move to another room. Engage in a quiet activity until you feel sleepy.
One method of preventing worries from keeping you awake is to keep a journal before going to bed. List all issues that worry you. By this method, you transfer your worries from your thoughts to paper. This leaves your mind quieter and more ready to sleep. —> Yey! Done! 🙂
Watch out for more nonsensical posts while I battle out the sleepless (and terribly hot) nights this summer. Please, please, please… bear with me.
I wish us all a good night and a long undisturbed sleep! ZZZzzzzzz….
I have finally proven that twitter is not a total waste of time.
I have been out of touch with the world lately (maybe because of no t.v.) and twitter has been the medium in keeping me updated with the latest.
Here are just some of my latest obsessions discovered via twitter.
Exhibit A. Parokya ni Edgar’s new video for “Pangarap lang kita”
The first ever concert I ever attended was a Parokya ni Edgar and Eraserheads (yes, on the same night) concert in Zamboanga City. I think I was a highschool freshman or sophomore.
It was epic and I was a fan of both bands ever since.
Thanks PnE for another cool soundtrip! 😀
Exhibit B. Rihanna and Britney’s collaboration
Being a Britney fan (in what seems like forever) and a Rihanna addict lately, I stirred with excitement together with the twitter world when Rihanna tweeted:
“I got a #SEXY collabo comin your way supa dupa soon!!!!! OH YEAH!!! By popular demand…. Its BRITNEY BITCH!!!!”
…and what added to the anticipation is Britney’s reply:
“@rihanna You’re such a tease! I like it, like it…. – Britney”
So we fans know it’s S&M for sure!
And when they finally released it, all hell broke loose! 😛
Exhibit C. Lea Michele’s New York Adventures
Not only am I being updated with the latest from Glee, but also the latest from Broadway.
This is c/o Miss Lea Michele.
It seems that she is always going to New York for the weekend and is watching every Broadway musical imaginable.
I so envy her.
But I am mostly thankful.
Her tweets are like windows of Broadway for me.
I also learned of interesting movies that were or not yet released here (like Jane Eyre and Hannah).
All thanks to msleamichele!
Special Thanks to Tatia for introducing twitter and forcing me to create my own account! hahaha. miss you!
